An Eastern Townships Wedding Venue: Maplewood Manor
Posted on 15 January 2017
Hidden away in the Eastern Townships is a town called Waterloo which is approx an 1 hour and 15 minutes from Montreal, dating back to 1793, originally called Lewis Falls it was later renamed “Waterloo” after the Battle of Waterloo when Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated!
In 1852 at 35 years of age, Asa Belknap Foster an American moved to Quebec and industrialised the town of Waterloo from 200 people to 2000 over an 18 year period and in 1864 he hired the famous Montreal Architect John William Hopkins to build his magnificent home up on a hillside overlooking the town of Waterloo…. now known as “Manoir Maplewood”!!
Manoir Maplewood is now a bijoux auberge with just 10 rooms from standard rooms to luxury suites and could be perfect for that romantic getaway (or upcoming wedding proposal)….. they offer B&B packages, Gourmet Packages & Spa Packages and they have a beautiful private garden with a swimming pool and hot tub for guests to enjoy.
For those food lovers, you will be spoilt here with their range of gourmet foods from the Eastern Townships including Duck Confit, Giant Scallops, Lamb Shank and so much more and in the summer the restaurant spills out onto a beautiful old wrap around veranda! They also have a wine cellar with a tasting room hiding in the centre of the Manoir with old brick archways.
Now the reason I am telling you all this is because this is the perfect place for an intimate wedding – imaging renting all the 10 rooms and having exclusivity of the Manoir for your wedding for the whole weekend. The ceremony can take place in the gazebo in the gardens, or if you prefer to be indoors in one of the Living Room areas, cocktails can take place in the gardens or on the wrap around veranda with dinner following in the Restaurant, and one of the advantages of working with a unique auberge such as this is that you can completely personalise ‘everything’!
Another feature would also be to have a tent installed in the gardens of the Manoir, which would be situated under the Linden Trees on the property. If like a lot of Quebecors you can’t bear to be parted from your furry best friend, then great news dogs weighing up to 25 lbs are welcome at a small daily charge too!
