A Montreal Wedding Venue: A New Ballroom at the Intercontinental
Posted on 06 February 2017
Last week we were invited to the launch of the new “A&S Nordheimer” Ballroom at the Hotel Intercontinental and must admit I am very excited about this new Montreal wedding venue space, which also has an outdoor terrace overlooking Old Montreal!!
So it was an interesting evening, as we learnt more about the Nordheimer building which dates back to 1888 when it was rebuilt after a fire in Romanesque Rivival style and can be seen by it’s unique pink granite facade (don’t you just love the architecture in Montreal). Back in the day the Nordehimer was owned by two brothers who created the Piano company and they founded the legendary “Nordheimer Hall” which hosted many concerts and events with up to 1000 people. Today the Intercontinental has named many of the conference / banquet rooms after some of the legends of the era who were featured at the Nordheimer’s Hall back. My favoutire story was Lucia Bellantini who was a “Chocolate Eclair” eater LOL, for 6 years in a row she won the Chocolate Eclair Eating competition, put on by the Montreal Pastry Chefs, but sadly one year she choked on an Eclair and that was the end of both her career and her life…… Eventually the two brothers ran into some debt and had to sell the Nordheimer building but only on the condition that it would always have the name “Nordheimer” and of course it still does today.
I must admit I think the Montreal Intercontinental must be one of the only hotels in Montreal that has such a diverse variety of spaces that you can host your event or wedding. From their very new modern Ballroom (more to follow) to the Fountain and Atrium at the World Trade Centre to underground old vaults for more intimate weddings.
So back to the launch party of the new “A&S Nordheimer” Ballrooms which are situated on the 5th floor of the Nordheimer building. The first thing we noticed upon arrival was how modern the space was and the entrance / foyer area greets you on two floors with a central staircase in black & white, very chic…. to the right you take a few steps down to a “Cocktail Area” which also includes a Bridal Suite (very handy) and then on the left side is the main Ballroom which can hold up to 300! The Ballroom again is very modern and has a wall of windows on one side giving lots of light and on the far wall had a decorative feature (looks a bit like piano keys) which can be changed to show the colours of your choice.
Now the food…. what can I say, the Cocktail Hour was an array of amazing food for us to try and the champagne flowed, but when we went through to the Ballroom, the room looked stunning with Black and White Decor and high floral centre pieces. We were then spoilt with copious amounts of food from little ‘soup in a bag’ to my favourite Shepherds Pie in little port glasses… we also enjoyed mini burgers as well as these amazing beets in a fluff of cream or cheese, again amazing! Then the dessert tray came OMG mini Lemon Meringue Pie’s, lots of chocolate to die for and just so much more, good job my nutritionist wasn’t around as I broke all the rules that night, but it was well worth it! I also got to spend time with some of my great wedding planner friends too!
As I mentioned earlier, wedding planners for years have been begging for more outdoor terraces so that we can offer great places for our clients ceremonies and cocktails and I guess they heard us as this is the second new outdoor terrace in Old Montreal in the last year 🙂 Now sadly because of the snow we did not get to see the new terrace, but I have been told it can hold up to 130 + guests for a ceremony and overlooks the rooftops of Old Montreal from the 6th floor of the Nordheimer! So excited to have one of my clients pick this new space for their wedding!
Weddings at the Intercontinental range from $95.00 – $225.00 per person, so something for everyone and you can check out all their various rooms and what works for you “Here”
